I was saddened to hear of Bob’s passing. I first encountered Bobo in 1974 when I joined the Regiment on Munster. Blimey what a character!! Although I was a newbie, Bob treated me with kindness and respect. Rest in peace Bobo, gone but not forgotten.

RIP BoBo. You were my last SSM at Bovvy before I left. My first real encounter with you, was probably in Recce troop at Fally, whilst on junction duty for the regiment, when you threw a cup of piss at us when Badger came roaring through the junction! Different times! 🤣 See you in the Tavern!

Farewell old friend. The green fields are calling you away from us.
In your going, my memories rise up, and I think of the many years it’s been my honour to be your mate, and comrade.
Through times of laughter and times of tears we were as one. From the Domino and NAAFI highlights, to a more sedate old age. We have had great and sad times.
The growing up of our kids. We babysat yours, then your kids babysat ours.
Life has been a richer place for me and mine because of your friendship.
Our family will miss you Bob, a mate forever.
Our love to you all. Colleen, Jacko and family.

It’s always sad to lose a tanky friend but never more so than with Bobo. I had the privilege of working and socialising with him on many occasions.
He was a larger than life character who earned the respect of everyone who knew him. Bob was one of the few men I knew who really did fear naught. Our heartfelt sympathy to Annette and family, RIP Bobo

In recent years when you had your cafe near where my sister lives in Oz, it was great to go and visit you a ciuple of times and I even got a free coffee and cake! You were one of the 2RTR legends mate and you will be sorely missed. RIP Bob. Fear Naught.

My dear mate, I feel honoured to have been a part of the Briggs family right till the end and will miss our constant banter and bonded friendship here in Australia. Those that really knew Bob understand his loyalty and respect for family, close friends and particularly those from the regiment whom he never forgot.
I’m going to miss you Bo 😢

One of the great characters of the Second from the time I arrived in Munster. Intimidating for a young officer (he was always keen to educate us!)but always with that humour. A fine soldier. RIP Fear Naught.

RIP Bobo, I first met you in Omagh when they sent me to the guardroom to be part of the Provost with you and Jacko, all the way through to woofers, remember you volunteering me for babysitting duties in woofers for you and Annette on mess do nights, though you did pay me well for it. You’ll always be remembered by me as a great man as you were such a presence in the regiment and my army life. Rest now Bob your duty is done, FN.

This news of Bobo’s passing is such a shock. I only had contact with him in the last 10 days and also sent him a friends request which he accepted. I first met him in 1971 I think (think that’s right) in Bovvy. Bob was a tall man with a massive character.
My condolences to Annette and all of Bob’s family.
Rest in peace Bobo and keep all our brethren in check up there in the Tavern.

RIP Bobo, as with many others Bob was my first troop leader and was very influential to my career. I was fortunate to meet up with Bob over here in Australia and rekindled our relationship as friends. Annette and Bob stayed with us for a couple of months while they were relocating to Queensland and I was glad to be able to return some kindness in Bob’s direction.

A great bloke and his influence shall remain as a legacy throughout us all.

I’m finding this hard to take in, I can’t begin to understand how his family are feeling. Bob was a giant in the regiment, a true legend. I have quite a few stories of Bobo but I think it’s best I keep them for another time and place. As I said Bob was a giant in the regiment but if you peeled back the layers you would find a kind, compassionate and gentle human being. You will be sadly missed by all that know you. Fear Naught Bob.

It was a privilege to serve alongside BoBo, an exceptional character and soldier……we served together in many countries in the same squadron and on occasions in the same troop. BoBo was an excellent and loyal soldier who was respected by all those that were lucky enough to have soldiered with him…….he didn’t suffer fools gladly and had a unique way of educating and directing those that were lacking. The comedian Jim Davidson had the experience of being part of his turret crew on exercise…..I’m sure the experience left an indelible mark on his show business life and to never forget how many sugars BoBo took in his brew.

Fortunately BoBo had the good fortune of having a wonderful family around him whilst serving with the Regiment and in his later years in Australia …..the other constant was the comradeship that remained for BoBo and his family by past military friends.

I’m sure Bridie and I are not alone in sending our heartfelt condolences to Annette, family and friends.

RIP BoBo your duty done……

I first met Bob in Omagh, he was in the int cell with Kenny walker mac mccoll and Tony gazard. When we moved to wolfers Bob and Annette where very kind to Sue and I. During Fally Bob served for a time in Ajax, although he appeared as tough as nails he was a great troop Sgt and a gentleman. I count my self very fortunate to have known and served with him. What a great couple Bob and Annette were. Rest in peace Bob, Out.

Just beyond gutted, so much heartache for Annette and the boys. I just don’t have the words. An absolute legend of the Regiment, in Huntsman and as Badger SSM in Bovvy. A giant of a man, who you respected immediately. Past the scary a funny, fair family man who loved the MIB. I don’t want to feel sad so I’ll just tell you a few stories from Badger in Bovvy when Bobo was SSM and Capt Lucy was Sqn Ldr. So Cambrai 1990, I let a thuderflash off (no one else did anything the #**##*) the Cavalry element of Bovvy lost there shit and Bobo called a parade, stating that he knew it was one of us because of Cambrai, he then let us know that all leave would be cancelled unless, the culprit owned up. I swear to God he looked at me and I went how did he know I was so fast running away, when I owned up straight after he said I knew it was you, I watch you play Rugby. Busted! he did say well done for owning up. I was in the guardhouse within an hour and got 17 days nick, Firm but fair always. One more, SHQ had a christmas Party, so Capt Lucy, SSM Bobo, Tony Rickard, Frank Kemp and me plus partners, at the time I was seeing a vegetarian. At the meal Bobo asked her if she ever ate meat and she replied she only ate Fish, oh how we laughed. Gary and Paul call me anytime, ever. I will never forget you Boss. XXX
