I regret to report that Major George Preston 2 RTR passed to the Greenfields on 20 March 2024. George did his last tour at ATDU 1986-88 time. He was SO2 C/E/ATGW when I returned on my second tour as RSMI before he went on to run the Technical Training Team. Subsequently as an RO he was responsible for the training Estate in Bovington and Lulworth.

I first met Maj Preston as a sprog Trooper in Omagh 1979. I continued to encounter him on various postings and courses throughout my 22 years. The last time must have been at Lulworth in 1998/99 Just before my discharge in 2000. A facinating and knowledgable man. His technical lectures during my Gunnery Instructor course were amazing. Rest easy now Sir. Job done. FN
