There was an amazing turnout for Ivor’s funeral yesterday, including ten ex-2nd/ex-2nd ‘attached’ to see him safely off to the Green Fields. Suckley parish church was by no means small, but it was full to overflowing, with many of us stood outside, where someone had had the foresight to install loudspeakers to enable everyone to take part in the service and hear the eulogies.
Many of those attending were from Ivor’s time on the railways, post-his service in the 2nd, along with many representatives from Cradley Royal British Legion and the local shooting fraternity where Ivor was a leading ‘light’/’shot’.
The 2nd/REME/APTC were represented by Richard Baker, Gig Young, Robbie Monk, John Rose, Tammy McHugh, Colin Locke, Johnnie Marsh, Dorian ‘Taffy’ Llewelyn, Frank Tole and Phil Green, with Richard Baker delivering an excellent eulogy.
After the service many repaired to Cradley Royal British Legion hall for an excellent buffet, plus a pint or two. Fear Naught and RIP Ivor.
Ivor Lloyd a great rugby player and all round sportsman…….was a member of the 2RTR rugby team when it was untouchable in the mid to late 60s…his name was always spoken in tandem with Mansell Thomas. Condolences to his family and many friends.
Courtesy of Dorian Llewelyn, herewith further detail re Ivor’s funeral: Dorian has been asked by Ivor Lloyd’s sister to inform those attending the funeral, that they are invited to join the family at the British Legion club at Cradley for refreshments after the service.
The British Legion club is approx 10 mins, SSE from the Church, post code WR13 5LT.
The family are very keen to meet some of Ivor’s old comrades.
So sad to learn of Ivors passing especially after some of the stories, laughs we had and his good company at the Hereford reunions over the last few years. RIP Ivor another great tankie gone but never forgotten.
