A sad loss of a true 2RTR character. Such a fun and generous individual who will be sadly missed by family and his Tankie friends. Always looked out for us young officers in Wolfenbuttel. RIP. FN.
A very sad day for all us who knew this very warm and friendly guy.Condolences to all the family. When we all saw him at the reunion you would not of known he was ill, he put on such a brave face. He looked after a lot of tankies in his restaurant. I’m sure he will carry on with that in the green fields. Your duty is now done old friend. Stand down and RIP.Til we meet again.

So very sad, last saw Pete a few years ago, a real gent he will be missed, our condolences to his family.
Pete was one of life’s great characters …..a standout man, whose humour and general disposition endeared him to all who had the good fortune to know him. I last exchanged emails with him while he was in America last Christmas…. never once did he mention his illness…..just sent me some photos of himself enjoying life…..
Bridie and I so saddened to hear of his passing….condolences to his family and many friends.
Pete Bennet I first met in Thanet recruitment office in 1979 in all his splendour, he persuaded me to join 2RTR when at the time I was IJLB. I owe him so much respect as I wouldn’t be in the position I’m today. Had I not made the decision to join 2RTR I’m sure my life would have been very different today and not for the better. Rest in peace Pete Bennet may we all meet again in the green fields ❤
Peter was one of my best friends. Cheerful, generous and most importantly loyal.
He was a larger than life character.
Along with his lovely wife Elizabeth he became a successful businessman owning one of the most successful restaurants in the UK.
I will miss you Peter. Until we meet again in The Tankie Tavern. Rest well my friend

Have known Pete a very long time along with many others of us. I remember a couple of very good years on the RAC Mobile Display Team back in 1970’s. May you Rest In Peace old friend and until we meet again in the ‘tankies tavern’
We have lost a tremendous man who was so willing to help anyone and was generous to fault. I first really met Pete on the Mobile Display Team. We had some terrific times swanning about the country, displaying the AFVs. We used to meet up at the reunions for more good fun and a few drinks!!
He will be sadly missed by his family and all his 2nd Tankie friends, but especially Bootsie and Swanny. RIP Pete we will meet again in the green fields.
A really great chap , always smiling and always helpful. We first met when I joined Cyclops in Pereham Down in 1965 , last saw Benny when we visited the Crab and Winkle in 2019 , lots of fond memories from Hohne.
What a tragic loss to anyone who knew Pete ‘Benny’ Bennett. I had the privilege of knowing Pete for 55 years, from our Hohne days, right up until his passing to the Green Fields. He was a top, top man, always seemingly either smiling or chuckling, so much fun, and so generous, both in spirit and deeds… RIP old friend.
In the phossie below, from Sennelager in December ’73, Pete is back row, 3rd from right.
Very sad news I worked with Benny in the Officers mess he was a really nice guy with a good sense of humour he will be sadly missed my condolences to his family , Fear Naught
Such sad news you will be missed by us all pete and will be greeted with open arms by all our old comrades who will most probably meet you in the tankies tavern RIP
RIP Benny one of the nicest most generous tankies ever -you may be gone but you will never be forgotten especially for all the work you, Bootsie and Mel did with the Chelsea Pensioners
